It Takes a Whole Village...Part 2

You have probably heard by now that we are signing up next year's teaching teams this month.  I am happy to say that we have many new and returning teachers who have stepped up!  We have some teaching spots left to fill, especially in the younger classes.  The curricula and the kids are great attractions for working in Religious Education.

Here are other essential ways to help out:
  • We ask each parent who is not teaching to be a Teaching Assistant at least 3 times during the year.  Having two adults in each class has been a very positive step this year.  Assisting in class is easy- there is no preparation involved- and a nice way to see what happens in RE classes.  Next year's calendar is available now.

  • Perhaps you would like to help with a special event like Fall Frolic or Mystery Friends? Periodically through the year, we have fun events to build community.  We'd love to have your input!

  • Maybe Social Justice is your passion?  Next year, our Social Justice Sundays will replace Star of the Day Sundays.  Would you like to work on a social justice project with the RE children and youth?  We are developing projects using curricula from Heifer International, Pennies for Peace, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and projects for local organizations like our Soup Kitchen and Save the Bay.  You can work on one project or several.

  • We worship in RE!  Once a month we hold a multi age Chalice Circle and we have regular multigenerational services in the Sanctuary.  Are you interested in taking part in multigenerational worship?  You could offer a story, bring musical talents or present a reading.

  • RE loves art!  Crafters and all sorts of artists are encouraged to share their passion for creativity with the RE Program.  Next year, we will organize a display of RE children's artwork for the Channing Gallery.  Would you like to be involved?

  • Outreach!  Do you have interest and talent in creating publicity materials for RE like brochures and webpage content or jazzy bulletin boards for the Parish Hall?

As you can see from this list, there is a volunteer opportunity to fit every person's interest.  Please contact Halcyon or any of the RE Committee members to find out how you can have fun in Religious Education!
